College interview: Should I or Shouldn't I? That is the question.

During my 15-year tenure as a college alumni admissions interviewer for Northwestern University, prospective students always asked me the same question- Should I bother with an alumni admissions interview? My answer is "Yes." Whether it's for early decision or regular decision, the college admissions process is a rat race. Hence, you should seize every opportunity to make contact with someone who has a connection to the school. Unless you are painfully shy and a one-on-one interview would not showcase your talents or personality, it doesn't hurt to have the chance to plead your case to an alumni admissions interviewer as to why you would be a perfect fit for the college. Carpe diem; however, despite the opinion of some that forgoing the college interview opportunity will hurt your case, this is simply not true. There are many prospective candidates who decide not take that path or are unable to take that path and are enthusiastically admitted. Without an alumni interview, college admissions personnel have a plethora of information to assess your candidacy. Good luck!
